A practical look at load selection, equipment planning, broker communication and the decisions that keep your operation moving.

NorthLink works with owner operators, independent truckers, motor carriers, small fleets, and fleet owners. If you already have a truck or a fleet and need help finding loads, managing
brokers, or staying organized on the paperwork side, this service is for you. We do not move freight. We support the people who do.
A dispatcher acts as an extension of your operation. The work centers on finding freight that fits your equipment, working rates with brokers, sending you the rate confirmation for approval, and managing the documents a load requires from pickup to payment. This is different from a load board, which is a listing service, and different from a freight broker, which works on behalf of the shipper. When a dispatcher works for you, the negotiation direction changes and your lane and rate preferences are your starting point rather than an afterthought.
The rate printed on the board is only the beginning of the picture. A high number can still be a weak load, and a modest number can be a strong one. Before you accept, run through the factors below, because each one changes what a load is really worth to you.
A load starting near where you are right now saves deadhead. A load far away eats miles and fuel before you ever see a dollar of freight money.
This is the empty miles you would have to run to reach the pickup or to reach your next load after delivery. Deadhead is where you lose money, so treat it as a cost, not as free time on the radio.
This is where you earn. Compare the loaded miles against the total trip and against what you could get from a load closer by.
Fuel, tolls, ELD logging, and maintenance all come out of a gross rate. A load that looks good on paper can break even once those costs are in.
Does the trailer type match what you have? Is there weight, height, or length that your unit cannot carry? Does the freight require temperature control, securement, or special handling?
Tight windows mean waiting. A load with a four hour appointment window can cost more in detention than the rate difference on the next load.
. Running home or through lanes you already know pays more than running into unfamiliar territory you do not want to repeat.
The timing of this load determines when you get home. A load that pays well but pushes home time past your deadline is rarely worth it.
A load that leaves you stranded far from good freight is different from a load that puts you in a strong position for the one after.
Some carriers require appointments at the dock. Missed or late arrivals cost you. Confirm who books the appointment and who is responsible for it.
Different equipment changes which freight you can carry and how you sell it. We support each type and point you to the page where the details are.
Drivers often search for truck loads for owner operators because they need freight that actually fits their rig and their week. NorthLink looks for freight that matches your equipment, your current location, and your availability. We present what we find and you keep full control. You accept a load or you decline it. There is no pressure and no obligation beyond the load you sign.

Dispatch support works when the person on the other end knows what you run and respects your time. We build our work around the practical realities of trucking, not the promises in a sales script. You keep control of which loads you accept, and you keep your authority, insurance, and identity as your own carrier throughout.
